Renault 4 Plein Sud: The Electric Car That Opens Up for Summer

Renault has unveiled the "Plein Sud" (South) version of its 4 E-Tech electric, a new iteration that embraces the open-air driving experience. This model features a large, retractable fabric roof, designed to evoke the nostalgic spirit of historical open-top Renault 4s like the Plein Air and Sixties versions.

The Plein Sud's standout feature is its black fabric roof, which can be electrically operated and controlled by voice command. It opens or closes in approximately 10 seconds, transforming the urban electric car into a vehicle suited for leisurely summer journeys. This system creates one of the largest roof openings found in A and B segment cars, measuring 92 cm long and 80 cm wide.

This open-air functionality benefits not only front passengers but also those in the rear, offering a sense of spaciousness and light. The addition of the retractable roof adds only 19 kg compared to a similarly equipped model with a fixed roof. The car can be driven with the roof open at speeds up to 90 km/h, and a mesh wind deflector is included for highway comfort.

Crucially, the Plein Sud maintains the practicality of the standard Renault 4. It still accommodates five passengers, offers a generous boot with a low loading lip, features a foldable front passenger seat, and retains its towing capacity. This ensures that drivers can enjoy the open sky without compromising on luggage space for their travels.
