Rescued pupils, teachers to remain under observation for 48 hours, Oyo Governor

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced the successful rescue of 39 pupils and five teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area. The victims are currently under medical care at the Odogbo Barracks in Ibadan.

Today is a day of gratitude to Almighty God. We are thankful that these innocent children and their teachers have regained their freedom after enduring a traumatic experience.

Makinde described the rescue as a moment of relief and thanksgiving for the state, expressing profound gratitude to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their professionalism and commitment. He noted that the operation, while successful, came at a cost, with some security operatives losing their lives.

This is indeed a huge relief, not only for their families but for every resident of Oyo State who has been praying and hoping for this day.

"Our joy today is tempered by the painful reality that some of our brave security personnel paid the ultimate price in the course of this operation," Makinde stated, extending condolences to the families of the fallen heroes. He assured that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

Our security agencies have demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience throughout this operation.

The governor confirmed that all 39 pupils and five of the seven teachers have been rescued. He added that the victims, though happy to be free, are physically exhausted and require comprehensive medical attention and psychosocial support. They will remain under observation for 48 hours before formal handover to the state government.
