FG Rejected Terrorist Demands to Avoid Encouraging Crime, Says Sunday Igboho

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, asserted that Nigeria's Federal Government deliberately rejected the demands of terrorists who abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State. Igboho stated that President Bola Tinubu's administration held firm, believing that paying ransoms or releasing detained terrorists would only embolden criminal enterprises and bolster the operations of bandits nationwide.

The victims, comprising pupils and teachers from several schools in the Oriire Local Government Area, were held captive for 56 days after their abduction on May 15, 2026. Their eventual rescue on Friday was attributed to a combined security team, a development Igboho praised.

I want to commend the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the military, the Police, Department of State Security and other paramilitary agencies for their painstaking efforts, which resulted in freedom for the pupils and their teachers.

Igboho extended commendation to President Tinubu, the military, the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Security, and other paramilitary agencies. He highlighted their "highly wired diplomacy" and "intelligence-driven tactics" as crucial to securing the victims' freedom. This successful operation, he noted, has restored public confidence in the government's commitment to combating criminality and ensuring a secure environment.

Further praise was directed at the Minister of Defence, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and the DSS leadership for their seamless collaboration. Igboho emphasized the government's unwavering resolve to tackle criminal networks, particularly in the Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State and across Nigeria. He assured that the synergy between security agencies and local security organizations would continue, aiming to create conducive environments for rural communities.
