‘Resignation party’ dance videos after ‘days of violence’ put CJP under fire; Saurav Das calls it ‘language of Gen Z’

Videos of leaders from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) dancing and celebrating after concluding their 37-day protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar have drawn criticism. The youth-led movement, which had been protesting irregularities in the education system and student suicides, faced scrutiny after clips emerged showing spokesperson Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, and other members dancing to music. BJP Rajya Sabha member Mahesh Jethmalani questioned the timing of the celebration, calling it a "victory party" held after "days of violence" in Delhi. He also raised questions about the funding for the protesters' extensive logistics during the weeks-long demonstration.

Responding to the backlash, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das defended the celebrations, attributing them to the "language of Gen Z." He argued that critics fail to understand modern activism, stating, "We can sit on the road for as long as it takes. We can protest while dancing. We can organise while sipping cold coffee." Das asserted that his generation is "confident, creative, resilient, and IMPOSSIBLE to stereotype," adding that older generations "will just have to deal with us!"

The CJP's protest began after outrage over a Chief Justice's comparison of unemployed youth to "cockroaches." Their central demand was the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to the NEET exam paper leak. The nationwide protest was called off on July 25 after Pradhan resigned and the government promised to consider the outfit's demands, which included maximum compensation for students who died by suicide.
