Retired officer kills partner, then himself in Santo Domingo Este

A retired army officer has been identified as the perpetrator in a fatal domestic violence incident in the Hainamosa sector of Santo Domingo Este. The man, identified as 50-year-old Jesús Jáquez, allegedly shot and killed his partner, 39-year-old Ramona Aquino, with a firearm on Tuesday morning.

Following the shooting, Jáquez reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence before taking his own life. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident was a murder-suicide. Authorities were dispatched to the scene and are currently conducting investigations to gather evidence and establish the full circumstances surrounding the event.

Domestic violence, particularly intimate partner homicides, remains a significant concern in the Dominican Republic. The home is often the location where such tragic events occur. This incident adds to the ongoing societal challenges related to gender-based violence in the country.
