Ricky Martin calls Venice debut with Gael García Bernal an important chapter in his story

For Ricky Martin, arriving at the Venice Film Festival with a film directed by Gael García Bernal represents “an important chapter” in his life and career. The Puerto Rican singer stars in “Hombre al agua,” which screens Sunday outside the competition.

Martin said Venice felt extraordinary because, although he has worked in front of cameras since he was 12, this is his first time joining a film cast at the festival. “Being in Venice is no small thing. The film follows Camilo, a Cuban lifeguard who saves a wealthy Mexican businessman from drowning. The businessman offers him a job at his factory in Yucatán, where Camilo marries his daughter and gradually realizes that things are not what they seem.
