Riga closes street section due to dangerous building structure

Riga authorities have closed a section of Daugavpils Street near building number 8 due to serious safety concerns. The closure is a precautionary measure following the discovery of a dangerous deformation in the second-floor load-bearing structure of the building.

There is a risk that parts of the structure could collapse onto the sidewalk or roadway, prompting the immediate closure. The building itself is uninhabited and has previously been classified as a dilapidated structure, contributing to the heightened concern over its stability.

To prevent potential harm to life and health, the City Development Department, in coordination with the Civil Defense Administration, requested the Riga Municipal Police to seal off the affected street section and cordon off the hazardous area. This measure will remain in place until further decisions are made regarding the building's future.

Building inspectors are scheduled to visit the site on Monday morning, August 3. They will evaluate the building's technical condition and decide on the necessary safety protocols. Residents are urged to respect the traffic restrictions and avoid the cordoned-off area.
