Riga to build urban defense obstacles during civil-military exercises

Riga is set to host practical civil and military defense exercises that will involve the construction of anti-mobility obstacles in urban environments. Specialists from the Riga municipality and the National Guard will participate, utilizing heavy machinery to erect physical barriers.

The exercises are designed to simulate responses to potential national threats, focusing on methods to impede enemy forces' movement within the city. These anti-mobility engineering structures, also known as physical obstacles, are intended to disrupt and delay adversary advances.

During the exercises, a section of Ojāra Vācieša Street in Riga, specifically the stretch from Uzvaras Boulevard to the Mārupīte pedestrian bridge, will experience restricted traffic for both vehicles and pedestrians. The Riga municipality has announced these temporary limitations.

Residents are being advised not to worry about the construction activities, which are part of preparedness drills. The event aims to enhance the city's defense capabilities and coordination between civilian and military entities in emergency situations.
