Rigtech Sonics coach encouraged by youth development progress

Rigtech Sonics Cycle Club head coach Roger Frontin sees significant encouragement in the performances of his young cyclists at the Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation (TTCF) Youth Developer Challenge. While Sonics riders frequently reached the podium, Frontin stressed that his focus remains on development rather than immediate results for riders under 12.

"As a development coach, those results are not really what I use as a yardstick," Frontin said. "I have seen improvements in some of the younger upcoming riders, so overall it was a very successful event." He noted the riders' excitement, as this was their first track competition in a while.

The club views the event as a crucial step in preparing riders for the national youth championships. Among the standout performers is juvenile cyclist Josiah Prince, who recently won his category at the Road Race Cycling Challenge. Frontin described Prince as one of the club's brightest prospects, highlighting his multiple national championship titles and consistent podium finishes.

"He is one to watch. He is now moving out of the juvenile category and has been showing tremendous form," Frontin stated. "He has the potential to become a sprinter, but at this stage we believe young riders should continue competing in a variety of events before specialising." The club also draws parallels to former standouts Nicholas Paul and Teniel Campbell, who excelled across disciplines before international success. Rigtech Sonics is also expanding its focus to mountain biking, recognizing its potential as an Olympic discipline and a safe environment for young riders to develop.
