Rishon Lezion deputy mayor released after five days in custody in sex offense probe

A deputy mayor in Rishon Lezion has been released from police custody after a five-day detention related to allegations of sexual offenses against a municipal employee. The investigation into the claims is ongoing.

The Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court has imposed conditions on the deputy mayor's release, including two days of house arrest. He is also barred from entering the municipality for 30 days and is prohibited from contacting the complainant or any other individuals involved in the case.

The arrest followed a covert investigation that had been underway for approximately two months, initiated after a complaint was filed by a municipal employee. Investigators conducted a confrontation between the deputy mayor and the complainant on Sunday as part of their probe.

Central to the case is the conflicting accounts of the encounter. The complainant asserts that the sexual contact was non-consensual, while the deputy mayor denies committing a sexual offense, maintaining that any sexual contact was consensual. His defense has also suggested the complaint may be retaliatory, linked to internal municipal disputes.
