Rivers Governor Commends Army for Success Against Oil Bunkering and Vandalism

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has lauded the Nigerian Army for its significant strides in combating illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism within the state. Fubara expressed his commendation during a courtesy visit from the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, in Port Harcourt.

The governor asserted that the sustained operations by the military, particularly the 6th Division, are yielding positive results. He noted that these efforts have directly contributed to an increase in crude oil production and, consequently, improved national revenue. Furthermore, Fubara highlighted that the military's presence and actions have bolstered the security of lives and property throughout Rivers State.

Fubara congratulated Lt. Gen. Shaibu on his appointment and expressed deep satisfaction with the noticeable improvements in the security sector since the COAS took office. "I can conveniently say that within the short period you have been appointed, there are a lot of positive things that our state has recorded in terms of security," Fubara stated, adding his hope for further positive developments during Shaibu's tenure.

The governor also acknowledged the Army's choice to host the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Rivers State, interpreting it as a reflection of the state's peaceful environment. Fubara pledged his administration's unwavering support and commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Army to ensure personnel can effectively execute their duties.

Earlier, Lt. Gen. Shaibu mentioned his visit was part of the 163rd anniversary activities and thanked the state government for its continuous support, including providing infrastructure for the celebration. The week-long event is set to include activities aimed at strengthening civil-military relations and positively impacting host communities.
