Road Collapses in Batman After Water Main Rupture, Causing Service Outages

A section of the Batman-Diyarbakır ring road in Turkey collapsed after a rupture in a large steel pipe carrying water beneath the roadway. The incident occurred in the Kuyubaşı area of Yenişehir Mahallesi.

The rupture in the 700mm steel pipe of the main water supply line led to immediate water service disruptions for the Seyitler, Kuyubaşı, Hürriyet, Huzur, Çamlıca, and Güneykent neighborhoods. Batman Municipality and highway teams have launched repair operations at the site.

Work is proceeding under strict safety measures because the damaged water line is situated near natural gas lines and an irrigation canal. The depth of the excavation, approximately 12 meters, also requires careful handling.

Officials stated that if no further issues arise, water service is expected to be gradually restored to the network by the evening. The municipality assured residents that crews are working around the clock to resolve the issue and minimize public inconvenience.
