Roads leading to Egypt's Monastery of the Holy Virgin being developed during Holy Family celebrations

Assiut, Egypt – Road development projects are progressing towards the Monastery of the Holy Virgin and the ancient sites of Meir in Assiut Governorate. These infrastructure improvements are being carried out concurrently with the ongoing celebrations commemorating the Holy Family's journey through Egypt, which are set to continue until August 21.

Governor of Assiut, Major General Mohamed Elwan, highlighted the importance of the project to develop the path of the Holy Family's journey. He described it as a significant heritage, cultural, religious, and historical undertaking that receives substantial attention and support from the state and its leadership. Elwan noted that the Qusiya district, which includes the Monastery of the Holy Virgin and the Meir antiquities, is a key station on this sacred route, boosting the region's tourism potential and promising economic and developmental returns.

The development of the path of the Holy Family's journey is one of the important heritage, cultural, and religious projects, which receives great attention from the state and support from the political leadership.

The ongoing development work focuses on upgrading roads and access routes to religious and archaeological sites. The goal is to present these locations in a manner befitting their historical, religious, and tourist value, while also improving services and the general appearance of the surrounding areas. Specifically, the local unit of the Qusiya center has been working on developing and beautifying the road leading to the Monastery and Meir antiquities, including completing a protective wall and installing interlocking paving stones.

The development work aims to upgrade the level of roads and axes leading to religious and archaeological sites, and to present them in a way that befits the historical, religious, and tourist value of the Holy Family's path.

Further enhancements include restructuring the road to improve movement for residents and visitors, developing the square in front of the Agricultural Secondary School, and implementing landscaping and upgrading the surrounding environment. Governor Elwan stressed the need for continuous field follow-up of the development stages and coordination among relevant authorities to ensure swift completion according to specifications. He emphasized integrating road development with facility upgrades, beautification, and landscaping to match the esteemed status of the Holy Family's path.

Elwan affirmed that the governorate is committed to developing and enhancing areas along the Holy Family's route, maximizing the utilization of its tourist and archaeological assets to boost tourism and foster economic development in the targeted regions.
