Roadworks near Quito Metro stations will cause closures from Sept. 5, 2026

New roadworks around Quito Metro stations will bring closures across central and northern Quito beginning Sept. 5, 2026. The interventions form part of a rehabilitation program covering about 31 kilometers of streets connected to the Metro network.

The first project will begin on José Padilla Street near Iñaquito station, where the road will undergo a full rehabilitation. Work will then move to Juan González, Ignacio San María and Juan Pablo Sanz. Together, the four streets cover 1,627 meters, with work scheduled to last 24 days. El Universo and El Norte, also near Iñaquito station, already have works underway.

On Sept. 6, construction will reach Ambato Street in the Historic Center. The affected 846-meter section runs between Mariscal Sucre Avenue and the La Victoria roundabout. Imbabura Street will follow, between Chimborazo and Bolívar. The planned work period for both roads is 23 days.

The area around Carolina station will see work from Sept. 7 on Alpallana Street, between 6 de Diciembre Avenue and the end of the road. Whymper Street will enter the schedule on Sept. 18, between 6 de Diciembre Avenue and Diego de Almagro. The two streets cover 935 meters and are scheduled for 24 days of intervention.

The works will require closures in the affected areas. The Metropolitan Transit Agency, the Mobility Secretariat and the Passenger Company will determine alternate routes and traffic arrangements according to conditions in each sector. Residents, businesses and public transport operators received information about safety measures and mobility management before the closures. Streets including Tarqui, La Razón, Mercurio, Clemente Ponce, Oe9e, Oe9f, El Día, Tegucigalpa, La Tierra, Nicaragua, Juan de Alcántara and 6 de Diciembre have already reopened, while work continues on several other roads near Alameda, San Francisco and Iñaquito stations.
