Romania: 37,000+ Candidates Vie for Permanent Teaching Posts in 2026 Titularization Exam

Romania's education system is abuzz as over 37,000 candidates prepare to sit for the national titularization exam on Tuesday. This crucial written test is the gateway for educators to secure permanent positions in pre-university institutions across the country.

The examination, scheduled to take place in 117 centers nationwide, follows preliminary stages including special classroom inspections or practical tests. Candidates needed a minimum score of 5 in these initial phases to qualify for the written portion. Of the 37,385 eligible participants, 7,510 are recent graduates from pedagogical high schools, university programs, or teacher training departments, according to the Ministry of Education and Research.

With over 41,600 applications submitted nationally, some candidates entered multiple counties, leading to a higher number of applications than eligible participants. The most sought-after positions are in preschool education (Romanian language), primary education (Romanian language), physical education and sports, Romanian language and literature, and special psychopedagogy. The written exam assesses both subject-specific knowledge and teaching competencies.

Candidates will have four hours to complete the exam, with potential extensions for those with visual impairments or other special needs. The Ministry has approved 44 such accommodations across 16 counties and Bucharest. Initial results are expected on July 28, with final assignments for permanent roles scheduled for August 5-6. To secure a permanent position, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 7 on both the written exam and the classroom inspection or practical test.
