Romania congratulates Moldova's new PM Tofan, pledges support for EU path

Romania's interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan extended congratulations and pledged full support to Moldova's newly appointed Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, whose government secured a vote of confidence from the Parliament in Chisinau. Bolojan emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral projects, from transport and energy interconnections to culture and education.

I congratulate him and wish much success to the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vasile Tofan, and I assure him of the full support and cooperation of the Government of Romania.

"We welcome with satisfaction Chisinau's progress in the EU accession process and, as I have stated before, Romania remains the most active and dedicated supporter," Bolojan wrote on X. Tofan, a 44-year-old businessman, was nominated by President Maia Sandu following the resignation of the previous interim prime minister. Tofan stated that his government's priorities will focus on accelerating economic growth, efficiency, and advancing European integration.

His government's ambitious agenda includes opening all six negotiation clusters by 2026 and completing accession treaty negotiations by the end of 2028. This requires an annual implementation rate exceeding 90%.

Other key objectives outlined by Tofan include modernizing approximately 300 kilometers of roads, investing 6 billion lei in education and 7 billion lei in agriculture, integrating at least 100,000 people into the labor market, and creating around three thousand new nursery places, alongside modernizing the healthcare system.

It is an ambitious calendar. It will not be achieved through declarations, but through applied laws, functional institutions, and projects executed on time.
