Romania finds itself on the "front line of defense" for the European Union, according to interim Defense Minister Radu Miruță. He highlighted the escalating attacks in Ukraine and nearby drone incidents as reasons for heightened vigilance.

Romania is on the front line of the defense of the European Union's border. We are investing in the Army to make those who think of attacking Romania pay a higher price, not to start the war, but to maintain peace.

Miruță reported that Romanian radars detected over 100 aerial targets, primarily drones, outside national territory in the 96 hours leading up to Saturday. These drones, often attacking Ukrainian Danube ports in swarms, have resulted in debris washing ashore on the Romanian coast. "This is a real war on Romania's borders," Miruță stated, emphasizing that the conflict is not a distant event for the country.

Over 100 targets, drones, were discovered in the last 96 hours just by Romania's radars outside Romanian territory, in the proximity of the borders. These targets attacked Ukrainian Danube ports seven times, in swarms.

Despite the proximity of the conflict, the minister assured that there are no indications of an increased direct threat to Romanian citizens. However, he noted a higher intensity on the Ukrainian front in recent days. To address potential threats, Romanian fighter jets were scrambled seven times in the last 96 hours, and their alert level was raised nine times.

Miruță stressed that Romania is investing in its military not to initiate war, but to deter potential aggressors and maintain peace. He asserted that Romania and its army will not allow the Black Sea to become a vulnerability for Romania, the EU, or NATO.
