Romania postpones state funding for four stadiums until 2028

State funding for four Romanian stadiums, initially approved for 2024 construction in Brașov, Timișoara, Oradea, and Slatina, has been postponed until 2028. Minister of Development Cseke Attila stated that the government has decided local authorities must now cover 25% of the costs through co-financing.

This decision comes after the government allocated 1 billion lei for the stadium projects. Cseke Attila emphasized the importance of developing sports infrastructure, recalling the recent completion of three multipurpose halls in Tulcea, Pitești, and Oradea over the past two years.

Basically, it is about a postponement of the Romanian state's financing for these stadiums from 2027 to 2028.

The minister confirmed that the four stadiums were approved by government decrees in 2024, with public procurement procedures beginning the same year. The funding model shifted in 2025, mandating local co-financing. The total value of the bids for the four projects is approximately 1.42 billion lei, lower than the initial state budget estimate of 1.8 billion lei. The state's contribution, estimated at 1.1 billion lei, will now commence in 2028.
