Romania's Energy Crisis Blamed on Delayed Power Plant Investments

Romania faces an energy crisis partly due to political inaction, according to energy expert Eugenia Gușilov. She asserts that the country's political class is responsible for the current deficit, accusing them of populism and deliberately delaying essential investments in the Turceni, Ișalnița, and Mintia thermal power plants.

Gușilov stated that if these power plants had been completed on time, they would have been sufficient to cover the production shortfall. Her remarks highlight a critical failure in national energy policy, suggesting that strategic investments were sacrificed for short-term political gains.

The expert's critique points to a pattern of mismanagement and a lack of foresight in securing the nation's energy independence. The delay in these key infrastructure projects, she argues, has left Romania vulnerable to external factors like drought, which has impacted the Danube River's flow and, consequently, energy production.
