Romania's highway construction lags, may finish 2026 with 190 km new roads

Romania faces a potential shortfall in highway construction, with projections indicating only 190 kilometers of new motorways could be completed by the end of 2026. This figure falls significantly below the targets set by transport authorities, who had initially aimed for over 250 kilometers of highways and expressways to be opened this year alone.

The Association Pro Infrastructura, a key watchdog group, released the forecast, highlighting notable delays and challenges plaguing major road projects. The A7 highway, a crucial north-south corridor, is specifically identified as a project experiencing significant setbacks, raising concerns about the country's infrastructure development pace.
