Romania's Highway of the Union A8 begins mountain section construction

Construction has started on a challenging mountain segment of Romania's A8 highway, connecting Joseni and Ditrău. This marks a significant step for the "Highway of the Union" project, which aims to link Moldova and Transylvania across the Eastern Carpathians.

La doar câteva zile de la emiterea autorizației de construire, mobilizarea constructorului român crește de la o zi la alta, iar vremea bună este valorificată din plin. Este exact începutul pe care ni-l doream și un semnal că acest proiect are toate șansele să avanseze într-un ritm foarte bun.

Romanian Secretary of State for Transport, Horațiu Cosma, announced the mobilization of the construction company, emphasizing that the good weather is being utilized for preparatory work. This includes executing test piles to validate foundation designs, supplying materials, and organizing logistics. Prefabricated beams for future highway structures and reinforcement cages for piles are also being manufactured.

"This is exactly the start we wanted and a sign that this project has every chance to advance at a very good pace," Cosma stated on Facebook. He highlighted that the preliminary stages are crucial for an organized construction site, ensuring a better pace and quality in the coming months.

The Joseni-Ditrău section is considered one of the most difficult infrastructure projects in Romania. Cosma assured that the work progress will be closely monitored and transparently communicated to the public. "So far, the start is very promising and gives us confidence that the first mountain section of the A8 can become an example of mobilization and good execution," he added.
