Romania Under Yellow Code Warning for Severe Weather: Heavy Rain, Hail, and Strong Winds Expected

Romania's National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a yellow code warning for severe atmospheric instability affecting a large part of the country on Sunday, June 7. The alert is in effect from 12:00 to 21:00.

In the Eastern Carpathians, the eastern half of the Southern Carpathians, Dobrogea, and most of Moldova and Muntenia, there will be periods of atmospheric instability manifesting as torrential downpours, lightning, wind intensification, locally strong winds (speeds of 50...70 km/h), and small to medium-sized hail.

The warning forecasts dangerous weather phenomena, including torrential downpours, strong winds reaching 50-70 km/h, hail of small to medium size, and frequent lightning. Specific areas under the yellow code include Muntenia, Dobrogea, southern and southwestern Moldova, and mountainous regions in the Eastern Carpathians and eastern Southern Carpathians.

In short intervals (1...3 hours) or through accumulation, water quantities will be 15...25 l/mp and isolated over 30...40 l/mp.

Meteorologists predict rainfall of 15-25 liters per square meter in short intervals, with isolated accumulations possibly exceeding 30-40 liters per square meter. While the instability is expected to be most intense in the specified regions, similar phenomena may occur in Oltenia, Transylvania, and other parts of Moldova, though over more restricted areas.

Elsewhere in the country, the weather will be variable with temporary clouds and isolated instability. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius. In the capital, Bucharest, the weather will remain generally unstable with variable skies, occasional heavy clouds, especially in the afternoon and evening, bringing showers, lightning, and wind gusts of 50-60 km/h. Hail is also possible. The maximum temperature in Bucharest will be around 26-27 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 14-16 degrees.
