Romanian Annual Diplomacy Meeting begins Monday in Bucharest

Romania's foreign policy priorities will come under review in Bucharest at the 2026 Annual Diplomacy Meeting, held under the theme “Diplomacy: The Anchor of a Changing World.”

The two-day meeting will be led by Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu and will bring together Romania's ambassadors and consular chiefs, senior Foreign Ministry officials, central government and parliamentary representatives, as well as business and academic figures. Accredited diplomats in Bucharest have also been invited to the opening.

The first day's agenda includes sessions on the Middle East and post-conflict prospects, Romania's role in the European Union, economic diplomacy, regional cooperation, macroeconomic prospects, competitiveness and security. Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani will join the Middle East session by videoconference, while participants will watch a video message from Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty.

European issues will feature prominently, including the opportunities and challenges linked to the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework and the future of the European project. The programme also covers energy, transport and digital connectivity, along with cooperation with neighbouring states as Romania holds the presidencies of the South-East European Cooperation Process and the Central European Initiative.

Representatives of the National Bank of Romania, the National Institute of Statistics, the Development and Investment Bank and the World Bank will discuss Romania's macroeconomic outlook, competitiveness and convergence within Europe. Foreign ministers and senior European and international officials are also expected to contribute video messages.
