Romanian Government Secretary General adjunct to resign Sept. 15 amid DNA probe

Cristina Trăilă is set to resign from her position as Deputy Secretary General of the Romanian Government on September 15. The official decision regarding her release from the role, submitted at her request, has been published in the Official Gazette.

The resignation comes shortly after Trăilă was questioned by prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in Iași. She is implicated in a case involving businessman Fănel Bogos from Vaslui. DNA prosecutors have accused her of complicity in using influence or authority to obtain money, goods, or other undue benefits for herself or others.

According to investigators, Trăilă is suspected of supporting businessman Mihai Barbu's efforts to influence the president of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA). The alleged goal was to replace the director of the Vaslui Veterinary Services and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) with an individual favored by Fănel Bogos. DNA has stated that Trăilă was informed of her suspect status and the accusations, emphasizing that the investigation is in the evidence-gathering stage and her current status does not equate to guilt.

The case is linked to irregularities discovered by DSVSA Vaslui concerning a chicken farm. Prosecutors allege that Bogos attempted to intervene through individuals with political and administrative influence to change the leadership of the veterinary institution in Vaslui. He reportedly received support from former intelligence service officers and generals in this endeavor. The DNA investigation is ongoing.
