Romanian Politician Laura Vicol Files Criminal Complaint Against MEP Siegfried Mureșan

Laura Vicol, currently indicted in the Nordis case, has initiated legal action against European Parliament member Siegfried Mureșan, filing a criminal complaint over a social media post. Vicol stated she discovered Mureșan's post, which tagged her as 'Laura Vicol (Nordis)' and urged people to 'not forget this,' and believes it constitutes a threat. She asserts that for two years, she has endured a public campaign of demonization, stemming from a report by Recorder, which has led to severe threats and insults. Vicol argues that Mureșan, by associating her with the Nordis company, which is undergoing insolvency proceedings and is under criminal investigation, has amplified this campaign. She views his post as a direct threat from someone beholden to foreign interests, aimed at a wide audience. Vicol emphasized that freedom of expression should not permit stigmatization and incitement to hatred, and she demands accountability for Mureșan's words. The Nordis case involves allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, tax evasion, and fraud, with an estimated prejudice exceeding 70 million euros. Several individuals, including Vicol and Vladimir Ciorbă, were initially detained but later released under judicial control.
