Rosa Icela Rodríguez warns Morena lawmakers against using the movement for personal privileges

Rosa Icela Rodríguez used a Morena parliamentary meeting to draw an ethical line ahead of Mexico's 2027 electoral process: no candidacy, office or personal calculation should come before the country's stability and the welfare of the majority.

No one can use the movement to obtain personal privileges or violate the law.

The interior secretary told federal lawmakers that the coming elections would test the movement. She said competition and legitimate political ambitions were part of democracy, but warned that no one could use Morena to secure personal privileges or violate the law.

Rodríguez also called for unity, while stressing that unity should not mean silence or uniform thinking. In her formulation, lawmakers should debate openly and then move together once a democratic decision has been made. She urged them to protect the legacy of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and support President Claudia Sheinbaum's political direction.

The approaching electoral process will test the movement.

She presented the government as one that defends Mexico with dignity and pointed to several achievements, including a higher minimum wage, expanded pension funding and sustained growth in support for the agricultural sector. That support, she said, will exceed one trillion pesos this year. She also cited 152 hospital projects planned for completion by 2030.

Unity does not mean silence or a single way of thinking, but discussing frankly and walking together after a democratic decision has been made.

Rodríguez said the Interior Ministry has continued working on the Ayotzinapa case to establish the whereabouts of the students and provide support. She described public office as temporary, while saying the people's mandate remains permanent.

No position is worth dividing the movement; no individual vision can stand above Mexico.
