Rubio: Iran Has Never Faced a President Like Trump

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted that Iran has never encountered a president like Donald Trump, characterizing him as someone who "actually takes action." Rubio suggested that Iran's regime, along with the rest of the world, had grown accustomed to its deceptions, broken agreements, and misleading tactics.

I don't think the Iranian regime has ever faced a president like Trump, someone who actually takes action.

Rubio emphasized the need for a change within the Iranian regime, stating, "The regime has to change. There may not be a regime change, but the regime has to change." He elaborated that Iran's ambition to govern not only Iran but the entire region and "export its revolution" must cease. The only way to achieve this, he argued, is by making the cost prohibitively high for Iran.

They got used to -- not just the United States, but the rest of the world -- them getting away with lying, cheating on agreements, deceiving others into signing pacts, and so forth.

He also noted the significance of several Arab Gulf nations aligning against Iran. In a separate discussion on international conflicts, Rubio addressed the war in Ukraine. He indicated that in the coming weeks, efforts would focus on resuming talks between the warring parties to end the conflict, while acknowledging that both sides have "very marked red lines."

They want to export their revolution. That has to change, and the only way to achieve that is for the price to be too high for them to be able to pay it.

Despite recognizing a "stalemate" in peace negotiations, Rubio expressed confidence that the United States and President Trump are uniquely positioned to facilitate dialogue between Russia and Ukraine on ending the war. The Secretary of State also touched upon U.S.-China relations, describing any conflict, whether economic or military, as "catastrophic" for both nations and the world, underscoring the need for careful management of the relationship without compromising national interests.

In the coming weeks we will strive to see if it is possible to resume conversations between both parties and end this war; however, we understand that both sides have very marked red lines and, until we manage to bring those positions closer, we will not yet be in a position to move forward.
