Rublev gives Darderi no chances and repeats triumph in Bastad

Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev secured the Bastad tournament title in Sweden on Sunday, defeating Italy's Luciano Darderi in a commanding performance. The match lasted one hour and eighteen minutes, with Rublev winning 6-4, 6-3.

This victory marks Rublev's second title in Bastad, having previously won the tournament in 2023. It also represents his eighteenth career trophy and his first title of the current year, following previous final losses in Barcelona. Rublev, currently ranked sixteenth in the ATP, demonstrated significant dominance, winning 87% of his first-service points.

Darderi, who had won the Bastad tournament in 2025, was unable to replicate his success against the formidable Rublev. He became the first player since Robin Soderling in 2010-2011 to reach consecutive finals at the Bastad tournament. For Darderi, this was his third final of the season, having previously competed in Buenos Aires and Santiago.

The loss in Bastad was only Darderi's second career defeat in a final. He had previously reached six finals, with only one loss before this match. His victories include clay-court titles in Cordoba (2024), Marrakech, Bastad (2025), Umag (2025), and Santiago (2026).
