Rupert Grint to reprise Ron Weasley role in 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' on Broadway

Rupert Grint is set to reprise his iconic role as Ron Weasley, but this time on the Broadway stage. The "Harry Potter" star will step into the shoes of an adult Ron in the production "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," beginning in February 2027 for a four-month run.

Grint, who first embodied the beloved wizard at the age of 11, will now portray Ron as a father, a role that holds personal significance for the 38-year-old actor. "I'm dusting off my old robes. New York, see you in February," Grint announced on social media, signaling his return to the wizarding world.

The play, set 19 years after the events of the final "Harry Potter" book and films, explores the lives of Harry, Ron, and Hermione as adults. Ron and Hermione are married and sending their daughter to Hogwarts. Grint previously told BBC News that Ron Weasley has been a part of him since childhood, and he looks forward to revisiting the character at this new stage of his life.

"There's something very special about becoming Ron again now that we're both fathers," Grint stated. "It's an experience that is so familiar, yet completely new." He also shared his excitement about returning to Broadway in a role that has defined a significant portion of his life.

Grint starred in all eight "Harry Potter" films from 2001 to 2011. Since then, he has appeared in television series and performed in New York theater. Notably, his "Harry Potter" co-star Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy, is also on Broadway. However, Grint and Felton will not share the stage, as Felton's run ends in January, just before Grint's begins in February. Grint is scheduled to remain with the production until May 30.
