Russia expands direct flights to Egypt's Mediterranean coast

Russian travelers will soon have direct air access to Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, as Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) has authorized direct routes to Borg El Arab and Al Alamein international airports. This decision opens Egypt’s northern coastline, a traditional domestic getaway, to a wider international audience.

The new routes will offer Russian tourists seamless access to Alexandria, the North Coast, and the developing luxury hub of New Alamein City. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry hailed the decision as a key milestone in the deepening aviation and transport partnership between Cairo and Moscow. The ministry stated that the new corridors will help meet rising travel demand and stimulate tourism and cultural exchange.

Rosaviatsia, acting on directives from the Russian Ministry of Transport, has invited Russian carriers to apply for scheduled flight permits. The agency is also open to reviewing charter flight requests for seasonal demand. This expansion strategically positions the Mediterranean Riviera as a new prime destination for Russian holidaymakers, moving beyond the established Red Sea resorts of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada.
