Russian drone and missile attack on Kharkiv region kills three, injures 18

A Russian drone and missile attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv region late Tuesday night resulted in three fatalities and 18 injuries, according to Ukrainian emergency services. The assault targeted residential buildings, civilian enterprises, shops, and vehicles, causing widespread damage.

In the city of Kharkiv, 15 people were wounded, and several cars, a cafe, and a utility company building sustained damage. Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that one drone struck an apartment block, narrowly avoiding more casualties, though nearby vehicles caught fire and surrounding buildings had windows shattered. "The enemy struck apartment blocks, civilian enterprises, shops, cars, and urban infrastructure," Terekhov stated.

Further east, in the nearby city of Chuhuiv, a missile attack claimed three lives and injured three others. Homes, commercial buildings, cars, and garages were damaged, and a vegetated area caught fire. Chuhuiv is located approximately 28 kilometers southeast of Kharkiv.

These attacks are part of Russia's ongoing military campaign, which regularly includes deadly assaults on civilian infrastructure across Ukraine. Despite ongoing peace negotiations mediated by the United States, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly rejected calls for an armistice. He also dismissed an open letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which proposed direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, with the possibility of including other parties.
