Russian region to use private employees for drone defense

The southern Russian region of Krasnodar, a key agricultural producer bordering the Black Sea, is implementing an unconventional defense strategy against Ukrainian drone attacks. Local authorities announced that employees from private companies will form mobile anti-drone response units.

These employees will sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense but will be guaranteed to remain within the region to protect their workplaces, rather than being deployed to the front lines in Ukraine. The regional administration will provide a monthly salary of 50,000 rubles (approximately $630) to each individual.

Authorities stated that Krasnodar must protect facilities vital to the country's food security and that businesses also have a vested interest in safeguarding their operations. This move comes as Russia faces an increase in Ukrainian attacks, prompting companies to acquire advanced defense equipment, including anti-aircraft artillery and radar systems.

The head of the regional Federal Security Service (FSB), Leonid Mikhailiuk, emphasized the importance of collective effort, stating, "Victory is important for everyone. And each must reflect on what they have personally done to achieve it as soon as possible."
