Russian strike on Kyiv ammo depot kills 37, Zelensky admits negligence

A Russian raid on an ammunition depot in the Bucha district, on the outskirts of Kyiv, has resulted in a tragic loss of life, with at least 37 people killed and over 40 injured. President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that the targeted facility was an army depot containing projectiles, mines, ammunition, drones, and explosives. He expressed outrage that the warehouse was situated among civilian homes, stating, "It absolutely should not have been there." Zelensky described the situation as 'terrible' and a 'grave negligence,' vowing that those responsible for allowing the munitions to be stored so close to residential areas would be held accountable.

The explosions from the depot reportedly lasted for hours, creating a devastating scene. Videos circulating online show a massive initial explosion followed by secondary detonations and widespread flames. Zelensky's candid admission of the depot's location and the implied negligence marks a departure from typical Ukrainian official statements regarding damage to military installations, highlighting the severity of the incident.
