Russian strike on Kyiv and surrounding areas kills four

A large Russian missile and drone attack killed at least four people in Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukrainian officials said, as authorities tightened security ahead of children’s return to school.

Three people died in the capital, according to the city military administration, which initially reported five wounded. In Boryspil, east of Kyiv, a strike damaged a business and killed one person. Another person was wounded there, while eight more were injured when a residential building was hit.

Kyiv region came under a massive attack by Russian missiles and strike drones.

The Ukrainian air force warned that the threat from ballistic weapons and other forms of attack remained active and urged residents to stay in shelters. Residents reported about a dozen loud explosions in Kyiv after the warning of incoming ballistic missiles.

Sadly, 3 people were killed in the enemy attack on the capital.

Officials said large events should not take place in areas considered highly risky as children returned to school. Kyiv and nearby areas have faced sustained Russian drone attacks in recent weeks, including attacks involving jet-powered drones and as many as a dozen air-raid alerts in a single day.

Long-range strikes by both sides have intensified in recent months, hitting warehouses, businesses, oil and port facilities, infrastructure and ships. The attacks have increased civilian casualties, while Ukraine faces a shortage of interceptor missiles, particularly U.S.-made Patriot systems used against ballistic threats. A weekend strike on an ammunition depot had killed 38 people in the capital’s suburbs.
