Rūta Meilutytė begins season at European Aquatics Championships

Lithuanian swimming star Rūta Meilutytė is set to make her highly anticipated debut of the year at the European Aquatics Championships. The London Olympic champion will compete in the 50m breaststroke qualification heats, marking her first official race of 2024.

Meilutytė will be joined in the 50m breaststroke by fellow Lithuanian Kotryna Teterevkova. The Lithuanian team will also feature two swimmers competing in the 50m freestyle and two in the 100m backstroke. Additionally, a mixed Lithuanian team will contend for a place in the final of the 4x200m freestyle relay.

The European Aquatics Championships are currently taking place, with qualification heats scheduled throughout the day. The schedule includes the 50m freestyle heats at 9:39 am and 9:41 am, followed by the 100m backstroke at 10:05 am and 10:14 am. The 50m breaststroke heats, featuring Teterevkova and Meilutytė, are set for 10:29 am and 10:33 am, respectively. The 4x200m freestyle relay heats will conclude the morning session at 10:57 am.
