Undeterred by setbacks, Galvydytė finishes fourth in Europe

Lithuanian runner Gabija Galvydytė secured a fourth-place finish in the 800m final at the European Championships, clocking in at 1 minute 59.12 seconds. The 26-year-old athlete from Jonava demonstrated resilience after a dramatic semi-final race.

During the semi-finals, Galvydytė was involved in a near-fall incident. The leader, Swiss runner Audrey Werro, stumbled on the final turn, clipping Galvydytė. Although Galvydytė managed to avoid a full fall, she lost her balance and fell onto the track. Following a protest, both athletes were reinstated and allowed to compete in the final.

Despite the semi-final drama, Galvydytė entered the final as the 11th-fastest qualifier. Her performance in the final secured her fourth position, a result she proudly shared with her critics. "I entered the final in 10th place, I took 4th place, I proved that my place is in the final. I want to tell my haters – I am fourth in Europe!" she exclaimed after the race, beaming with good spirits.

The gold medal went to Switzerland's Audrey Werro, with Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson taking silver, and the Netherlands' Femke Bol-Broeders earning bronze. Galvydytė's strong showing marks a significant achievement in her athletic career.
