Ryanair's schedule to drop two routes from Kaunas: 'Planes used to be full'

Low-cost carrier Ryanair is set to remove two routes from its schedule at Kaunas Airport in Lithuania for the upcoming winter season, impacting flights to Madrid, Spain, and Pescara, Italy. This move follows previous reductions in routes from Lithuania's airports by the airline.

According to the official airline schedule, the last flight from Kaunas to Madrid is slated for October 21, while the final flight to Pescara will depart on November 4. Some travelers have expressed regret online, with some noting that flights to Madrid were often "full."

Lithuanian Airports confirmed that flights to Madrid and Pescara are indeed not included in the planned winter schedule for Ryanair from Kaunas. However, they emphasized that this is a seasonal change and does not necessarily signify a permanent discontinuation of these routes. Rūta Sinkevičiūtė, head of the Flight Development Department at Lithuanian Airports, stated that the overall flight offering from Kaunas for Ryanair in the winter season remains substantial.

This is a change to the specific seasonal schedule, so at this time there would be no reason to claim that these routes are being abandoned permanently.

Sinkevičiūtė further explained that while the number of flights on certain routes may decrease, this is often compensated by increased frequencies on others. In fact, she noted that Ryanair's operations from Kaunas this winter are projected to increase by 6% compared to last year. The airline had previously announced it would not introduce any new routes in Lithuania for the summer of 2026, citing rising airport fees as a barrier to recovery and connectivity.
