Sailboat carrying five capsizes off Progreso, Yucatán

A sailboat carrying five people overturned about 150 meters from the shore of Progreso, Yucatán, near the Benito Juárez García neighborhood, known locally as La Federal.

The incident prompted a response from personnel of the state Public Security Secretariat. Witnesses watching from the beach said the recreational vessel capsized while several people were aboard, but no injuries were reported.

A white yacht nearby moved toward the sailboat and helped its occupants. A Public Security Secretariat boat later arrived to assess the situation and check the condition of everyone involved.

The yacht transported the occupants to the Yucalpetén marina. Once authorities confirmed that nobody had been injured, the state vessel left. Several hours later, efforts began to tow the sailboat. Authorities had not reported what caused the accident off the coast of Progreso.
