SailGP returns to Geneva for second edition

The Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix is set to return to Geneva's bay on September 19-20, 2026, organizers announced. This marks a comeback for the high-speed sailing event, which was initially planned as a one-off in September 2025.

Following the "resounding success" of the first edition, organizers immediately began discussions with Geneva city and cantonal authorities to ensure the event's continuation. Julien Di Biase, the executive director of the SailGP championship, confirmed the plans at a press conference in Geneva.

Spectators can anticipate the return of the impressive F50 foiling catamarans. These boats, described as giant insects with wing-like sails, use hydrofoils to lift themselves out of the water, allowing them to achieve speeds two to three times that of the wind. The sight of these vessels generated significant enthusiasm during the first event.

The 2025 event was hailed as the largest outdoor sporting event ever held in Geneva and on Lake Geneva, though this claim is difficult to verify. The upcoming 2026 event promises another display of cutting-edge sailing technology and thrilling competition.
