Salah Eclipses Osimhen’s Turkish Lig Record, Joins Onuachu, Nwaiwu at Trabzonspor

Mohamed Salah is set to become the highest-paid player in the Turkish Super Lig following his reported move to Trabzonspor. The Egyptian star will reportedly earn a net salary of €17 million after tax for one year, with an option for an additional year. This move surpasses the previous record held by Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who earned a net salary of €15 million plus bonuses during his time in the league.

Salah's lucrative deal also includes 20% of the revenue generated from merchandise sales linked to his image, alongside performance-based bonuses. His transfer to Trabzonspor marks a significant shift after nine years with Liverpool, where he scored 257 goals and achieved numerous accolades, including four Premier League Golden Boots and three PFA Player of the Year awards. His departure from Liverpool reportedly stemmed from a falling out with former head coach Arne Slot, despite a strong performance in the 2024-25 season.

At Trabzonspor, Salah will reunite with Nigerian compatriots Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu. The club, known as the Black Sea Storm, has a history of success, including seven league titles, with their most recent championship in 2022 ending a 38-year drought. Trabzonspor finished third last season, securing a spot in European competition, potentially the Europa League or Conference League.

Given Trabzonspor's financial standing, Salah's substantial wages are expected to be partially covered by corporate sponsors. The club is preparing for his official unveiling, which is scheduled for 5:30 pm local time. This signing is anticipated to be the club's biggest, drawing parallels with the arrivals of former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and ex-Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe.
