Super Falcons Maul Egypt 6-2, to Face Cameroon in Blockbuster Q’final

Nigeria's Super Falcons showcased a dominant attacking performance, overwhelming Egypt with a 6-2 victory at the Stade Moulay Hassan. This win propels them into a highly anticipated WAFCON quarter-final clash against rivals Cameroon.

The Falcons finished as group runners-up to Malawi, who narrowly defeated Zambia. Despite all three teams ending with six points, head-to-head results placed Malawi at the top of the standings.

Nigeria set the pace early, with Asisat Oshoala converting a penalty in the 21st minute after a VAR review for handball. Gift Monday extended the lead just before halftime, capitalizing on a clever short-corner play involving Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide. Egypt managed to pull one goal back before the break, making the score 2-1.

In the second half, the 10-time champions maintained their firm grip on the game. Substitute Uchenna Kanu re-established the two-goal advantage in the 57th minute with a precise left-footed shot. Further solidifying their dominance, Christy Ucheibe and captain Rasheedat Ajibade each converted VAR-awarded penalties in the 80th and 88th minutes, respectively.

The match concluded with a spectacular goal in stoppage time. Gift Monday and Ajibade combined to set up Joy Omewa, who tapped in her first WAFCON goal, capping off an impressive six-goal offensive display.
