Salomón Rondón leads the Liga MX Apertura scoring charts

Salomón Rondón has found the net six times in his first six matches of the Liga MX Apertura, putting the Venezuelan striker alone at the top of the scoring charts. Pachuca, however, remains outside the places for the Mexican league playoffs.

Rondón began the tournament with two goals in Pachuca’s 3-0 win over Pumas, the Clausura runners-up. He headed both crosses beyond goalkeeper Keylor Navas. After Pachuca lost in the second round, Rondón scored the team’s only goal against Querétaro, again connecting with a cross and directing his header into the net.

Pachuca lost again in the third round, when Rondón did not score. He returned to the scoresheet against Puebla, despite another defeat for his side. The 36-year-old scored both Pachuca goals in the 3-2 loss, heading in a cross from the right for the team’s second goal before converting a penalty.

He missed the target in the fifth round but scored again in the sixth. Against Chivas Guadalajara, Rondón took a penalty in the 79th minute to level the match at 1-1. Pachuca also drew 1-1 in the previous round.

According to Sofascore, Rondón leads several other statistical categories. His four headed goals are twice as many as those of the players behind him, and all six of his goals have come from inside the penalty area. He last played for Venezuela in March 2026, scoring twice against Trinidad and Tobago in the FIFA Series. Oswaldo Vizcarrondo did not call him up for the June international window.
