Salpholda Hockey League ‘A’: GRA, Reformers maintain high standards

The Salpholda Hockey League ‘A’ continued its exciting season with a second week of matches that featured intense competition, decisive victories, and a remarkable display of scoring prowess across both the men's and women's divisions at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch.

In the men's league, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) bounced back from an opening week defeat to secure a crucial 1-0 victory against Legon Knights, thanks to a late penalty corner conversion by Prince Klutse. Meanwhile, Reformers sent a strong message to their rivals by demolishing the University of Ghana men's team with an overwhelming 8-0 scoreline, solidifying their status as serious title contenders. 'Hockey Is The Reason' also maintained their early form with a 2-1 win over Arkmen.

The men's division also saw a tightly contested match between Exchequers and Police. Exchequers took a 2-0 lead with goals from Kofi Okyere Quagraine and Rahman Odoi. Despite a late consolation goal from Police's Samuel Boadu, Exchequers held on for a 2-1 victory.

However, the most astonishing performance of the week came from the women's defending champions, GRA. They delivered a historic performance, crushing the University of Ghana Ladies 20-0. The standout player was Vivian Narkuor, the reigning SWAG Hockey Player of the Year, who single-handedly scored an incredible 12 goals, all from open play. Gifty Addae added a hat-trick, Ernestina Coffie scored twice, and Mercy Ackon, Antwi Doris, and Racheal Eshun each contributed a goal in a dominant team effort.

Other results in the women's division included a goalless draw between Ark Ladies and Police Ladies, and a 1-1 stalemate between Army Ladies and Extinguishers, showcasing the competitive nature of the league across all teams.
