Salto Justice Implicates One Suspect in Murder of 36-Year-Old Man; Accomplice Sought

In Salto, Uruguay, a 30-year-old man has been charged with aggravated homicide and ordered to serve 180 days of preventive detention in connection with the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man. The incident occurred on a Monday night in the Artigas neighborhood, an area police have identified as a "red zone" due to a high incidence of crime.

The victim was reportedly executed in front of his home, near the intersection of Instrucciones del Año XIII and the Ruta 3 bypass. One of the alleged perpetrators abandoned the motorcycle used in the crime near the local cemetery, just meters from the scene. Police responded with an intense operation, seizing a 9mm Glock pistol, a revolver, ammunition, and a stolen Yumbo motorcycle.

During the operation, five men were brought to the police headquarters. Among them were two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, who were released after providing statements. The 30-year-old suspect, however, was formally charged and remanded into custody pending further investigation and trial.

Salto police are now actively searching for a second individual who accompanied the accused and transported him to the crime scene. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the accomplice and piece together the events leading to the homicide.
