Samsung Electronics Formalizes Robotics Push with New CEO-Level Division

Samsung Electronics is intensifying its focus on robotics as a key future growth engine, establishing a new division directly under the CEO to spearhead its robotics business.

The newly created 'RX (Robotics eXperience) Business Promotion Office' will be based at the Seoul R&D Campus in Woo-myeon-dong, Seoul. This office aims to integrate robot-related personnel, foster a collaborative environment, and expand necessary infrastructure, including offices and laboratories, to drive robot development and commercialization.

To bolster its core competitiveness in robotics, Samsung will build a data factory at its Gumi facility. This will enable the rapid deployment of robots in real-world applications and facilitate close collaboration with research teams at the Seoul R&D Campus to advance robot intelligence and control systems. The company also plans to establish global research hubs in the United States, China, and Japan to leverage local expertise, ecosystems, and talent, thereby continuously strengthening its technological competitiveness.

Key personnel appointments include Lee Dong-gun, former head of robotics strategy at Hyundai Motor Group's Boston Dynamics, who will lead the Robotics Strategy Team and oversee the mid-to-long-term robot business roadmap. Additionally, world-renowned experts such as Professor Kim Hyun-jin from Seoul National University in intelligent autonomous robot systems and control, and Professor Kim Eui-kyum from Ajou University in robot hands and manipulation, will join the RX Business Promotion Office. Samsung aims to consolidate its existing robot-related capabilities and technological prowess through this new organization, establishing an integrated system from mid-to-long-term strategy development to core technology research and commercialization.
