Samsung launches new Galaxy Z 8 foldable phone series in South Korea

Samsung Electronics officially released its latest foldable smartphone lineup, the Galaxy Z 8 series, in South Korea on August 7. The new series comprises the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Fold 8 Ultra, and the Flip 8. Notably, the Fold 8 boasts a distinctive "passport phone" design, characterized by its compact form factor when folded.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is priced at 2,577,300 won for the 256GB model, the Fold 8 at 2,278,100 won, and the Flip 8 at 1,683,000 won. The company reported that pre-orders for the Galaxy Z 8 series broke previous records for Galaxy smartphones, reaching 1.44 million units. The Fold 8 model accounted for 70% of these pre-orders.

The Fold 8 series is composed of the Fold 8, which is called the 'passport phone' due to its passport-like design, and the Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8, which inherit the design of previous models.

Samsung highlighted that the Fold 8 features a different screen size and aspect ratio compared to its predecessors. When folded, it offers a 5.5-inch display with a 10:16 ratio, expanding to a 7.6-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded. The company also noted that half of the pre-order customers for the Fold 8 on Samsung.com were in their 20s and 30s, and the number of female customers more than doubled compared to the previous generation.

Customers purchasing the new devices by the end of August can avail themselves of various promotional benefits, including a 10% discount coupon for the Galaxy Watch 10, a 30% discount coupon for accessories, a six-month Google AI Pro subscription, and a three-month Willa subscription. The Galaxy Z 8 series will be sequentially released in approximately 100 countries worldwide, starting with South Korea, followed by markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. The new smartwatches, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 9, were also launched, featuring advanced healthcare functions. The Watch Ultra 2 starts at 969,100 won, and the Watch 9 at 499,000 won.
