Samuel García inaugurates 550th field in Nuevo León; boasts record progress toward the 2026 World Cup

Nuevo León Governor Samuel García inaugurated the 550th sports field in the state, a significant milestone for the "Ponte Nuevo, Ponte Mundial" initiative aimed at preparing for the 2026 World Cup.

The ceremony took place at the "General Felipe Ángeles" Primary School in Guadalupe. García highlighted that Nuevo León has exceeded its initial target of 500 sports fields, establishing itself as the entity with the highest number of such facilities among World Cup host locations.

"A year ago, we announced we would build 500 fields, and few believed it. Today, we not only fulfilled it but reached 550," García Sepúlveda stated, drawing comparisons to investments made during the World Cups in Qatar and Brazil.

The initiative is set to continue in schools that have the space and request a new field, further promoting physical activity and school interaction. The Secretary of Education, Juan Paura, acknowledged the state government's support, emphasizing the positive impact these spaces will have on the sports and social development of children and youth.

The event included appearances by former players from Club de Fútbol Monterrey and Tigres UANL, who participated in a friendly match with students. The new synthetic turf field will benefit 269 students from "General Felipe Ángeles" and "Manuel E. González" primary schools. The "Ponte Nuevo, Ponte Mundial" program focuses on renovating and equipping school sports facilities to foster a culture of sport leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
