Samuel García leads reforestation effort in La Huasteca, NL; over 2,500 trees planted

Nuevo León Governor Samuel García led a significant reforestation drive in the La Huasteca region, where more than 2,500 native trees and plants were planted across three hectares. The event, part of a national initiative spearheaded by President Claudia Sheinbaum, underscored the state's commitment to expanding green areas and combating deforestation.

During the activity, García highlighted the planting of native species such as anacahuitas, mesquites, and huizaches, alongside plants considered at risk of extinction. He connected virtually with the national reforestation effort led by President Sheinbaum at the Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park in Puebla. García noted that his administration has already planted over 1.1 million trees in the Monterrey metropolitan area and the Sierra Madre Oriental.

Further initiatives like "Bosques del Agua" and "Bosques Ciudadanos" are underway to increase tree cover in the Sierra Madre and integrate large trees into urban spaces like avenues, plazas, and parks, transforming concrete areas into green spaces. The La Huasteca event saw participation from over 300 individuals, including federal and state officials, firefighting brigades, ejido community members, and personnel from the National Guard and the Secretariat of National Defense. Nationally, the reforestation day involved more than 235,000 people across 621 municipalities, aiming to plant 6.6 million trees on 32,184 hectares.
