San Ignacio, Misiones, Prepares Grand Celebration for Patron Saint

San Ignacio, the capital of the Hispano-Guaraní Baroque region in Misiones, is gearing up for a significant celebration honoring its patron saint, San Ignacio de Loyola. The festivities, scheduled for July 31, will encompass a diverse program of religious, cultural, and sporting activities designed to engage the entire community and visitors alike.

The celebration aims to provide an opportunity for attendees to reconnect with their roots, preserve local traditions, and share the customs that define the area's identity. Antonio Cáceres Duarte, president of the organizing committee, highlighted the effort to make this year's event unique by incorporating new elements. "We have a packed schedule with various sporting, cultural, and religious activities," he stated.

Key events include a traditional 'asado a la estaca' (roast beef on a stake) festival, where approximately 500 stakes are expected to be prepared. Musical entertainment will be provided by prominent national artists, including Los Ojeda, alongside regional and local performers. The organizing committee anticipates around 15,000 visitors will attend the celebrations. Religious observances begin on July 22 with a novena, and the main day on July 31 will feature a procession and a central eucharist presided over by Bishop Osmar López.

Then, on the 31st, the main festival will be held with the traditional asado a la estaca, which we call the National Festival of Asado a la Estaca, where around 500 stakes are expected to be prepared.
