San José and Olimpia Kings set for basketball Apertura final

The 2026 Liga Nacional de Básquetbol Apertura tournament culminates this Thursday with a highly anticipated final series between Deportivo San José and Olimpia Kings. This matchup marks a significant clash between two archrivals vying for the top basketball title in Paraguay.

Olimpia Kings enter the series as the defending champions, having successfully claimed the last two championships. Their victories halted a dominant streak by San José, who had previously secured eight consecutive titles. The final series will be a best-of-five format, with the first team to win three games declared the champion. Deportivo San José earned the home-court advantage, having finished first in the regular season standings. The initial games are scheduled for Thursday, July 2, and Monday, July 6, with subsequent games dependent on the series outcome.

San José will host Game 1 and Game 3 at León Coundou, while Olimpia Kings will host Game 2 and Game 4 at the Polideportivo de Capiatá. If a decisive Game 5 is necessary, it will also be played at León Coundou.

This final pits the two most successful clubs in Paraguayan basketball history against each other. Olimpia Kings boast an impressive 36 titles, while Deportivo San José follows with 18 championships. Since 2018, when Apertura and Clausura tournaments began to be considered full championships, these two teams have dominated the league, with San José winning nine titles and the Kings winning six.
